Our friend Michael Bending was in a very serious motorcycle accident on July 12, 2009. He was hit by a motorist that was changing lanes and did not see Michael and his eight year old daughter on the motorcycle. At the time of this letter, Michael has had two brain surgeries and is on a ventilator to help him breathe, along with his multiple other injuries. His daughter is recovering well and is now at home with mom. Due to the extent of Michael’s injuries, it will be quite awhile before he will be able to support himself or his family again.

Michael “Joker” Bending has worked for over 20 years to help in the success of the Chicagoland Toys For Tots Motorcycle Parade. He is an active member and has also worked with the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run and A.B.A.T.E. organizations as well. Michael has always been very generous with his time, energy and donations when there is a worthy cause. Now, Michael is in need of our help.

We will be holding a benefit for Michael on October 24th, 2009 at VFW Post #6863, 7254 W. 63rd Street, Summit, IL 60501 from 3pm to 12am. We hope to pay Michael’s mortgage for as many months as possible, and defray as many of his other bills as we are able. We are asking for any donation you could make toward this cause. Either a cash donation or merchandise that we could put into a raffle would be most gratefully appreciated. We would like to ensure that Michael is able to return to his home after what will be a lengthy hospital and rehabilitation stay.
